High in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, the rain and water begin the journey down to the rivers of the Amazon. Here in the local village of Cariacu, locals have begun to hike the paths to the waterfalls to clean the area of debris and trash. The locals hope to create tours for travelers and teach them about one of the worlds most valued resources, water. Though water may be plentiful in some areas of the country, clean water may be a luxury that many cannot afford. By cleaning and protecting the water flowing down to other villages, the people of Cariacu have not only conserved a local ecosystem, but helped to create a better human well-being as well.
