Join AAZK San Diego our Beer for a Porpoise! fundraiser benefiting the San Diego Zoo Global’s Ridge to Reef Initiative and the vaquita porpoise.

.
Ridge to Reef is a community-based conservation initiative that unites components of San Diego Zoo Global projects in the southwest United States and northwest Mexico. This initiative emphasizes collaboration with Mexican residents and organizations to provide participatory and place-based education strategies, relevant conservation information, and methods to engage the community in the conservation of the vaquita.

.
The vaquita is the world’s smallest and most endangered cetacean (a type of porpoise) found only in a 2,500 square kilometer portion of the upper Gulf of California. Small, shy creatures that feed in shallow sections of the Gulf, the vaquita is often caught in illegal gillnets from the totoaba fishery. Despite government effort only 30 vaquitas remain and without prompt and drastic action the vaquita will likely go extinct within the next few years.

.
Faced with extinction, March has been named international Month of the Vaquita and 2017 has been named Year of the Vaquita.

.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will aid the community-based conservation work being done by Ridge to Reef in support of the vaquita.

.
The event will feature a raffle and auction with unique items and gift certificates.

.
Participants will receive a free pint glass and free pint of beer with every paid ticket and food will be available for purchase.

.
Please join us in supporting the vaquita!
